How to Reserve a Freight Elevator for Your NYC Move
Updated: Sep 17
In many NYC buildings, the freight elevator reservation decides your whole moving schedule. Missing it can delay a move by hours or even days. Here is how to get it right.
Contact management early
Call or email your building manager or super as soon as you know your moving date. Popular slots, like end-of-month mornings, go quickly.
Questions to ask
What hours are moves allowed? How long is each reservation? Is a deposit or fee required? Do you need a COI? Are there size limits for the elevator or loading dock? Is the elevator padded by the building?
Book enough time
Ask your mover how long loading or unloading should take and reserve a little extra. Running past your window can mean waiting for the next open slot.
Don't forget the other building
Book the elevator at your new building too, and plan the times so the truck can arrive right when your reservation starts.
