How to Pack Fragile Items and Artwork for a Move
Updated: Sep 17
Fragile items are the most likely to be damaged in a move, but good packing prevents most problems. Here is how to protect your most delicate belongings.
Use the right materials
Get strong boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap, and good tape. Avoid newspaper, since the ink can rub off on dishes and fabrics.
Glassware and decor
Wrap each piece separately and fill gaps with crumpled paper. When you gently shake a packed box, nothing should move.
Framed art and mirrors
Put painter's tape in an X across glass to help hold it together if it cracks. Protect corners, wrap the piece in bubble wrap, and place it in a picture box. Always keep art and mirrors standing on edge.
Lamps and electronics
Remove bulbs and shades and pack them separately. Take a photo of cable connections before unplugging electronics, and use original boxes when you have them.
Label clearly
Mark boxes FRAGILE and point them out to the crew during the walkthrough. Crossroads Moving handles fragile items with extra care. Call 201-567-4135 for a quote.
