Moving in Queens and Staten Island: Local Tips
Updated: Sep 17
Queens and Staten Island feel different from Manhattan and Brooklyn. More homes have driveways, but distances are longer and bridges play a big role. Here is how to plan.
Queens: plan for distance
Queens is the largest borough, so a move from Bayside to Astoria can take as long as a move to another borough. Share both addresses early so your estimate includes realistic travel time.
Queens: high-rises and houses
Long Island City towers usually require a COI and elevator reservation. Houses in Forest Hills or Bayside often have driveways, which can make loading faster.
Staten Island: bridges and timing
Moves on and off the island use the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, Goethals Bridge, or Outerbridge Crossing. Avoiding rush hour can save a lot of time, and tolls may be part of your estimate.
Staten Island: HOA and community rules
Some townhouse communities limit truck hours or curb access. Check with your HOA before booking your date.
