How to Pack a Kitchen for a Move
Updated: Sep 17
The kitchen is usually the hardest room to pack. It is full of fragile, oddly shaped items, and you need it until the last days before your move. Here is how to do it well.
Start with what you rarely use
Pack holiday dishes, specialty appliances, and extra glassware first. Leave out a plate, bowl, cup, and utensil per person for the final days.
Dishes and glasses
Wrap each piece in packing paper. Stand plates on their edges like records rather than stacking them flat, and fill empty space so nothing moves. Mark boxes FRAGILE and THIS SIDE UP.
Pots, pans, and appliances
Nest pots with paper between them. Pack small appliances in their original boxes if you have them, and tape cords to the side.
Pantry
Use up open and perishable food before moving day. Tape opened containers closed and pack liquids in sealed bags.
