If you live in a New York City co-op, condo, or managed rental, your building will probably ask for a certificate of insurance, or COI, before your move. Here is what it is and how to get it done without delays.

What is a COI?

A COI is a document from your moving company's insurance provider. It shows the mover is insured and names your building and management company as certificate holders or additional insureds, protecting the building if something is damaged during the move.

What to ask your building for

Request a sample COI or the exact wording required, including the legal names and addresses of the building owner and management company, and any minimum coverage amounts.

Send it early

Share the requirements with your mover as soon as you book. Many management offices need several business days to approve a COI, and you usually need one for both your old and new building.

Crossroads Moving provides COIs for NYC buildings. Call 201-567-4135 or email info@crossroadsmoving.org with your building's requirements.
